Evolution of credit institutions’ balance sheet
The Banque centrale du Luxembourg informs that, based on preliminary data, the aggregated balance sheet of credit institutions reached 972 277 million euros on 30 November 2024, compared to 957 390 million euros on 31 October 2024, an increase of 1.55%.
On the assets side, this increase is due mostly to the monthly increase of loans towards the banking sector and other sectors. On the liabilities side, this increase is due to deposits from the other sectors. On an annual basis, the aggregated balance sheet increased by 2.37%.
Net interbank lending, i.e. the difference between interbank loans and deposits, increased by 416 million euros, or 0.18%, to reach 231 345 million euros at the end of November 2024.
Loans to resident non-bank customers decreased by 99 million euros, or 0.09 %, between October 2024 and November 2024. Over twelve months, these oans have increased by 78 million euros, or 0.07 %.
On a yearly basis, loans to non-financial corporations (NFCs) decreased by 3 255 million euros (or 11.68 %), loans for house purchases increased by 50 million euros (or 0.12 %) and loans to other financial intermediaries (OFIs) increased by 3 544 million euros (or 9.69 %).
With regard to the liability side, deposits from the resident non-bank sector have decreased by 737 million euros, or 0.25 %, between October 2024 and November 2024. Over twelve months, these deposits increased by 9 938 million euros, or 3.54 %.
Between November 2023 and November 2024, Other financial intermediaries (OFI) deposits (which had a share of 66.9 % as at 30 November 2024 and comprised deposits made up by monetary and non-monetary investment funds) increased by 5 973 million euros (or 3.17 %) and household deposits progressed by 1 922 million euros (or 4.27 %). NFC deposits increased by 723 million euros (or 3.02%) and deposits from the other sectors[1] progressed by 1 320 million euros (or 5.63 %).
